May 30 – June 4, 2016:
I was fortunate enough to attend my first conference in the beautiful town of San Juan in PR. The theme for the conference was “Old and New Technologies Converge in Historic San Juan”. There were 5 PhD students representing the CU buffs at the conference from the civil engineering department.
I presented my research and paper on “Emotional States and their impacts on hazard identification skills.” The research explored how emotional valence impacts hazard identification skills within a construction context. The preliminary findings suggest negative emotions improves hazard ID skills.
It was unfortunately not the best time to visit PR because of zika virus scare and constant rains. Despite the attendance being a little thin, it was still a great experience to meet the scholars from around the world. Looking forward to the next conference in Louisiana.
