Dr. Matthew R. HallowellI and I were invited to deliver keynote presentations at the Southeast Asia Safety Summit hosted by OTIS Elevator Company. The 2-days seminar was OTIS’s proactive effort to examine the current trends in safety within the organization and work towards the goal of zero fatality on their projects worldwide. My presentation on “Relationship between Safety Climate, Risk Tolerance, and Breaking Rules” examined:
- Empirically validated trends in safety climate, risk tolerance, and tendency to break rules.
- Relationship of safety climate with workers’ tendency to break rules while controlling for their personal and work-related risk tolerance.
- Role of demographical differences in moderating these relationships.
It was an incredible trip courtesy of Dr. Hallowell who included me on this exciting and rewarding project. We stayed an extra day to explore the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Ho Chi Minh downtown.
